Ayr call early check

Rain is threatening to wash out Friday's meeting at Ayr, with an inspection called for 7.30am tomorrow.

The going is described as heavy, waterlogged in places, and officials are pessimistic.

"This rain is sitting on us at the moment but it is meant to clear away overnight," said clerk of the course Katherine Self.

"We've got a dry day forecast on Wednesday, but more rain is expected to move in on Thursday and Friday. It's not looking good."

All six races are due to be run on the straight course over five and six furlongs.
