Gerry team expecting Diadem sparkle
Owner Gerry Galligan is in bullish mood as his pride and joy Sir Gerry prepares to line up in the John Guest Diadem Stakes at Ascot tomorrow.
After winning a Listed event at this venue back in April, James Fanshawe’s three-year-old has run a couple of fine races in defeat, taking third in the Prix Gros-Chene at Chantilly and filling the same position in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He ran no sort of race when last of 13 in the July Cup last time but Galligan believes his colt is now back in top form and is expecting a prominent showing on Sunday.
“He simply wasn’t himself in the July Cup last time so James gave him a break afterwards,” said Irishman Galligan, who was less than thrilled when his horse was denied a run in the rearranged Sprint Cup recently.
“If he is anywhere near his best he should win this and his last two pieces of work have been very good.
“My dream is that he can win at Ascot and then go to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita.
“Dreams don’t always come true but I’ll tell you one thing – this horse will be holding his own in Group One sprints next year.”
