Dascome hopes for success with Fifth at Ascot

Tom Dascombe is quietly confident Firth Of Fifth can make his presence felt in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

An impressive winner of the Superlative Stakes on his penultimate start, the juvenile failed to land a blow behind Orizaba in the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time.

However, Dascombe’s horses have been under a cloud for a while and it is not until recently he has been happier with the conditions of his string.

“Firth Of Fifth appears to be in great form and I’m looking forward to the weekend,” said Dascombe.

“Everyone knows I have had a quiet time with the horses and for a while I didn’t do a lot with them.

“But I am much happier with them now and when the string worked this morning, they were all full of themselves.

“This horse hasn’t run since Goodwood but that is mainly because where else could I run him?

“The ground cannot be fast enough for him and I think the mile will suit him down to the ground.

“If he gives a good account of himself, I think we will look at running him in the Dewhurst Stakes afterwards.”
