Hughes hits century mark
Fresh from returning from a 14-day suspension, Richard Hughes chalked up his 100th winner of the campaign aboard Appraisal for Richard Hannon in division one of the Electrolux Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Goodwood.
Hughes made a successful comeback at Folkestone 24 hours earlier and readily hit the century mark on the Sussex Downs as his willing 3-1 partner forged clear to deny 4-5 favourite Roman Glory by two and a half lengths.
Hughes said: “That is 100 for the season, but I’ll be back to zero soon! It seems a long time since I last started out on zero and I wouldn’t be doing it without Richard Hannon.”
Hannon added: “It was unfortunate he got the 14 days and it is a pain as the jockeys collect days here and there through the winter, which then log on to the Flat season. Richard has done his time now though, and is released.”
