Benbaun back at Curragh

Mark Wallace expects to saddle his beloved sprinter Benbaun a couple more times before he packs his bags for Australia, starting off in the Waterford Testimonial Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Last year’s Prix de l’Abbaye winner, a six-time scorer at the Kildare course, has not been himself this year and was a beaten favourite at Doncaster on his latest run.

“I’d like to run him at the Curragh – it’s a Listed race – and hopefully in something else before the end of the season,” said Wallace.

“It hasn’t been decided what will happen with him when I go and he has been suffering from a few problems so we will have to wait and see.

“My licenses are being sorted out to train at Eagle Farm in Sydney and I would expect to have stopped training here by the end of next month.

“I will probably start in Australia at the beginning of January.”
