Cheveton bids for compensation

Prolific sprinter Cheveton is likely to be given a chance to return to winning ways following his fifth-place finish in last weekend’s Ladbrokes Portland at Doncaster.

A return to the minimum trip beckons rather than the extended five furlongs of the Town Moor handicap for a gelding who has provided nearly half of English trainer Richard Price’s seasonal total.

Cheveton ran up a sequence of five wins, nearly all at big name tracks like Newbury and Ascot, before the Portland and has run 12 times since making his racecourse debut in March.

“He ran a blinder on Saturday. It’s been a long season and he’s only four but we will give him another run and I think there is a five-furlong race at Haydock the weekend after this,” said Price.
