Thirsk will hold a further inspection at 7am as they battle to stage their scheduled meeting on Sunday.

The North Yorkshire track were forced to call off Saturday’s card after heavy rain left parts of the course waterlogged and although they have enjoyed a lengthy dry spell, more rain is forecast.

Clerk of the course Christopher Tetley said: “We will have another inspection at 7am.

“It’s improved dramatically today but there are black clouds around and we have been very lucky as I’ve heard reports of torrential rain only miles away.

“There are still areas of slight waterlogging, nothing a dry night wouldn’t solve, but we are forecast more rain overnight.”
