Effigy burns off Salisbury foes

Henry Candy struck with his only runner on the card as Effigy broke his maiden tag at the 17th time of asking in the Axminster Carpets Apprentice Handicap at Salisbury.

A fast-and-furious pace played into the hands of the 5-2 favourite, with rider Amy Scott allowing her mount to pull away passing the three-furlong marker to collect by a length and a half.

Candy said: “He isn’t the easiest but it all went right for him.

“They probably went too fast early, but he loves a strong pace and was able to take it up when he wanted.

“The conditions of the race suited him too as whips could be carried, but not used.”
