Breeders' Cup aim for Gerry
Connections of Sir Gerry hope he shows enough on his next outing at Ascot to book his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup meeting at Santa Anita in October.
The three-year-old ran a blinder to finish a close-up third in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, but finished last in the July Cup.
However, owner Gerry Galligan believes his pride and joy is back firing on all cylinders and expects a much better show in the John Guest Diadem Stakes on September 28.
“James (Fanshawe) gave him a break after his run in the July Cup, where he clearly wasn’t right,” said Galligan.
“He’s back in great form now and looks to be on target for Ascot.
“And if he runs to his best form there, then we will give serious consideration to sending him for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on October 25.
“The horse will stay in training next season and we have a very ambitious programme planned for him.
“We’ve always believed he is a Group One horse and, with another year on his back, he’ll be the one to beat in the top sprint races.”
