Fathom Five primed for the Curragh

Bryan Smart is hoping Fathom Five gets his favoured soft ground in the Cill Dara Security Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Bryan Smart is hoping Fathom Five gets his favoured soft ground in the Cill Dara Security Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

Although still without a victory this season, the four-year-old was not disgraced when chasing home Strike Up The Band in the Shergar Cup Dash at Ascot last time under Turkish champion jockey Halis Karatas.

Smart admitted it was a good effort on ground quicker than ideal and he hopes testing conditions prevail in Ireland this weekend.

“It looks as though he will run as long as the ground is on our side,” said Smart.

“He loves soft ground and it is looking that way at the moment so we will be taking that into account.

“He ran a great race at Ascot really, the lad who rode him didn’t quite understand what we’d said but it was a good effort.”
