Freddie Head's multiple Group One winner Marchand D'Or has been ruled out of the Betfred Sprint Cup on September 6 after suffering a setback.

The five-year-old, who was second in the Haydock Group One 12 months ago, won the July Cup at Newmarket before securing his third victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last time.

Although the injury is not serious, it is enough to rule him out of a trip to Haydock and he will now be aimed at the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp in October.

"I took him out of Haydock as he has had a little setback and I couldn't take the risk," Head told the Racing Post.

"It is nothing serious but he was stopped for two days. We will now train him for the Abbaye de Longchamp."
