Patkai aiming for Voltiguer victory
Patkai puts his Classic claims on the line in the Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on Tuesday.
Michael Stoute’s progressive three-year-old, ante-post favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger, heads a field of eight for the Group Two heat which is regarded as the most significant trial for next month’s Classic.
This decade Milan (2001), Rule Of Law (2004) and Lucarno (2007) have followed up victory at York by going on to glory at Doncaster.
Aidan O’Brien is triple-handed with Alessandro Volta, Bashkirov and Hindu Kush whole Richard Hannon runs Scintillo and Andrew Balding has declared Top Lock.
The only Voltigeur runners not holding a St Leger entry are the John Gosden-trained Centennial and supplementary entry Meydan City, who will only run if the ground is suitable.
