Many reasons to celebrate for Fahey
There was a thrilling finish to the opening Ark De Triumph Maiden Auction Stakes at Ripon with Richard Fahey’s More Than Many coming out best in the hands of apprentice Jamie Moriarty.
There were only 11 runners in the six-furlong test but the field split into two groups and More Than Many, racing on the far side and backed from 14-1 to 8-1, was brought with a good run to collar Our Apolonia and Abbey Steps close home.
He had three-quarters of a length and a nose to spare while his stable companion Royal Salsa, who raced in the near side group, finished only eighth.
Fahey said: “I know the other horse (Royal Salsa) was a shorter price, but when I saw the draw I thought More Than Many could be the one. He did it well but it wasn’t a great race.”
