Just reward for Brotherton

A bit of opportunism paid off for Serena Brotherton as she landed the winning ride on Aypeeyes in the Bathwick Tyres Ladies Derby Handicap at Newbury.

“A girl in the yard was going to ride him, but you needed a winner to be allowed in the race and Serena was the first person to fax,” explained winning trainer Alan King.

The 10-1 shot is not exactly enamoured with the game at present but after plenty of coaxing he put his best foot forward to hold The King And I by a length and a half.

“He hates the Flat and he hates jumping, so easy come, easy go. It’s a good prize too,” quipped the Barbury Castle handler.
