Newton Abbot waterlogged

This afternoon’s fixture at Newton Abbot has been abandoned.

Following 22 millimetres of overnight rain, officials at the track staged a 6am inspection – after which the track was found to be waterlogged and unsafe to race.

With further heavy showers forecast, clerk of the course Jason Loosemore accepted the situation had already grown untenable.

He said: “It’s a fine morning but there is more rain to come and the track was unable to take 22 millimetres of rain.”
