Cristal just clear in Guinness Auction Maiden

Cristal Island scrambled home by a short head in the Guinness Auction Maiden.

The 7-4 favourite, trained by Thomas Mullins, opened up a healthy lead on the turn for home but she was all out to hold Dactik by a short head at the line.

Tatacoa was one and a half lengths away in third.

“She held on and it was a brave performance,” said the trainer.

“If she wasn’t any good she would have got beaten in that photo. She will be getting a bit of a lay up after that now as she had a hard race,” Mullins told At The Races.
