Meehan unveils big plans for Cat

Brian Meehan expects Cat Junior to progress into a true Group One performer after his good run at Chantilly on Sunday.

The three-year-old finished fourth behind impressive winner Tamayuz in the Prix Jean Prat on only the fourth run of his career.

That followed another big run at Royal Ascot, where he was beaten less than four lengths by Henrythenavigator in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

“I was very impressed with him at Chantilly, he confirmed his run at Ascot,” said Meehan.

“I was talking to Richard Hughes after the race on Sunday and we all agree that he is crying out for a mile and a quarter now and I think that will make him into a genuine Group One horse.

“The Juddmonte International (at York) is a possibility, but I’m quite favouring going the route that we went with David Junior for the same owner a couple of years ago.

“That would be the Rose Of Lancaster at Haydock, a Group Three at Goodwood and then the Champion Stakes at Newmarket,” he told At The Races.
