Queally fit for Multi duty

Tom Queally will blank out memories of a nasty moment at Lingfield on Tuesday night for one of the biggest rides of his career aboard Multidimensional in the Coral-Eclipse.

The stylish rider has been booked by Henry Cecil to partner one of his two entries in the Group One race at Sandown on Saturday – but the trainer could nearly have been forced to look elsewhere.

Queally was aboard the Mark Tompkins-trained debutant Royal Acclaim in a low-key maiden at the Surrey course but she went wrong turning around the final bend and sent her jockey spinning down on the Polytrack.

“I’m sore and a bit swollen but just about OK,” said Queally.

“It was quite a bad fall and I didn’t ride today but hopefully I’ll be back on Thursday.”

Queally has often been booked by the legendary Cecil as second jockey to Ted Durcan.

Durcan has decided to ride Prince of Wales’s Stakes runner-up Phoenix Tower, now the 100-30 joint-favourite with the sponsors, but he is only slightly ahead of 4-1 shot Multidimensional.

Phoenix Tower came out on top of the five-year-old when Durcan rode Multidimensional in the Earl of Sefton Stakes earlier in the season.

But the latter got even closer to a Royal Ascot victory than his stablemate as Macarthur caught him in the final strides of the Hardwicke Stakes.

“I’ve ridden in a good few Group One races, I’ve never won one and Multidimensional looks to have a decent chance,” Queally added.

“We have been very happy with his work and I sat on him the other day.

“I won on Phoenix Tower at Newmarket earlier in the season and as long as we get a bit of luck, the stable has two good chances.”
