Weld star chasing Polly spoils

Mad About You has her first race over 10 furlongs in Saturday’s Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and connections are hoping she will improve for the step up in trip.

The Dermot Weld-trained filly only has a maiden win to her name but has shown some top-class form in defeat.

She was just touched off in the Irish 1000 Guineas last time and was also placed twice at the highest level as a juvenile.

Her dam, Irresistible Jewel, won the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot in 2002 when sporting the same Moyglare Stud colours, and racing manager Stan Cosgrove is expecting a big run this weekend.

“She ran a really good race in the Guineas and the ground would have been plenty fast enough for her,” said Cosgrove.

“We’ve had a bit of rain recently so it should be much more in her favour this time.

“I went to watch her on the gallops this morning and she came up there very sweet.

“Her dam won the Ribblesdale and her sire, Indian Ridge, had a winner over two miles at Ascot last week (Patkai) so there should be no worries over the trip.

“She wasn’t far behind Zarkava last year and that form is red-hot too.

“I think she’ll run well, she’s got a big chance.”
