Souter’s Sister’s consistency was rewarded with a decidedly easy first career victory in the Mercedez-Benz of Brighton Maiden Voyage Maiden Auction Stakes.

Only narrowly beaten on her last two starts and placed on three of four runs, the Richard Hannon-trained juvenile was sent off the 2-7 favourite and jockey Ryan Moore was not troubled as he came in six lengths clear of four inferior rivals.

The win was a poignant one for the Merritt family as it was the first for Paul, son of Hannon’s longstanding owner Alan Merritt, who died earlier this year.
