Group ones beckon for Gloria

Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner Lady Gloria is likely to chance her arm in Group One company when the going eases.

James Given’s filly won her Group Three at Epsom earlier in the month, and with suitable options now relatively scant, she will have to take on the big guns.

“The Falmouth is a possibility but we would require rain for her to run at Newmarket,” said Given.

“Her one bad run last season came on quick ground and that’s why we didn’t make any entries for her at Royal Ascot this week.

“She came out of the race at Epsom very well but with the ground important, I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see her for a couple of months.

“She’s in a Hamburg Group Three coming up but it’s probably going to be too firm there and we will give her entries in the Nassau and Matron Stakes and keep an eye on things.

“We have to jump to Group One races if we stay in fillies’ races as there’s only one Group Two open to her in the UK now and that’s the Blandford at the Curragh in September.

“We’re not sure if she’s a Group One filly but she is improving and won’t just be turning up to make up the numbers rated 106.”
