River Proud a doubt for Derby
River Proud, supplemented into the Vodafone Derby on Monday at a cost of £75,000 (€94,118), is unlikely to take his place in the blue riband after suffering a late setback.
Trainer Paul Cole reports the French 2000 Guineas third to be lame, casting his participation in tomorrow's Classic into doubt.
Cole said: "He is one 10th lame and it is unlikely he will run in the Derby.
"I am not sure what caused it, but he is lame and I imagine we will make a final decision on his participation this evening.
"It is not evident why he is lame so until we find out what is wrong all plans are on hold.
"It is a shame as the horse is in very good form and did a great piece of work on Wednesday."
River Proud is widely available at 25-1 for the Derby.
