Dettori picks up Clowance mount
Frankie Dettori has picked up the ride on Roger Charlton’s Juddmonte Oaks fancy Clowance – at the expense of Steve Drowne.
Connections have decided to use the Italian due to his greater experience in top races around Epsom and the impressive strike-rate he enjoys there.
“It has been decided that Frankie Dettori will ride Clowance because he has greater experience in Group One races at Epsom,” said Charlton.
“It is no reflection whatsoever on Steve, with whom I have a very good friendship and working relationship, and he has done nothing wrong on the filly. He has been very understanding about the situation.
“The fact that Frankie is available, and in view of his record at Epsom where he has a 23% strike-rate, it was decided we should take advantage of that. Steve will continue to ride for the stable.
Of the filly, who won the Swettenham Stud Fillies’ Trial at Newbury, Charlton told the Racing Post: “I think soft ground will suit her. I’d much prefer to run her on good to soft than good to firm.
“It’s an open race and she goes there with every chance. Her pedigree suggests she will stay a mile and a half, while there may be a doubt about several of the others staying the trip.”
