Fist of God set for Gallinule Stakes
Last week’s Dundalk winner The Fist Of God could be in line for a substantial rise in class in Sunday’s Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh.
Noel Meade’s gelding saw his juvenile form receive a boost with Alessandro Volta, to whom he was second in a Listed race, winning the Lingfield Derby Trial.
The Fist Of God collected a conditions event under the floodlights quite tidily on Friday night but there are some interesting sorts among the 16 entries for the Gallinule at this stage.
“He might go, but he has to improve on what he’s done to win a Group Three,” said Meade.
“He did it well last time and seems in good form. If the ground is good I might let him take his chance and I’d hope he’d run a nice race.”
John Oxx has entered the once-raced Raydiya while Dermot Weld has promising sorts Central Station and Winchester – the latter is also in the Irish Derby.
Pampas Cat, Better Hand and Celtic Slipper could all fly the flag for Britain.
