Oaks target for Mint
Cheshire Oaks runner-up Sugar Mint has earned herself a shot at Epsom, where she will have a little extra help.
“All being well she will definitely run in the Oaks where she’ll wear a tongue-strap, as she swallowed her tongue last time,” said trainer Barry Hills.
Sugar Mint produced a fine effort under the circumstances at Chester, where she was only overtaken inside the final furlong to be beaten half a length by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Sail.
The High Chaparral filly was fourth in last season’s May Hill Stakes before breaking her duck in a maiden at Bath in April, when she beat subsequent impressive Newmarket winner Duntulm.
Odds of 25-1 for the Juddmonte-sponsored Oaks are the most generous about at this stage.
