Ada River faces Newbury test
Ada River faces seven rivals as she steps up to Listed company for Friday’s Swettenham Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes at Newbury.
Andrew Balding’s inmate, who holds an entry in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, won easily on her reappearance in maiden company at Kempton last month.
Ada River pleased Balding on that occasion but he knows she faces a stiff task against the likes of Clowance, Kotsi and Rosa Grace.
“Obviously it’s a big step up in class but I like the way she did it at Kempton and she’ll probably be a little bit sharper for having had that run,” said the Kingsclere trainer.
“We’ll be delighted if she runs well and finishing in the first three would be great.
“I hope the step up in trip will suit. Her sister was probably best at a mile and a quarter, so we’re hoping for the best.”
Ralph Beckett’s Hobby, Katimont, Longoria and Shaker complete the line-up for a race won by subsequent Oaks heroine Eswarah in 2005.
