Prendergast: Moiqen can end O'Brien reign in Derrinstown

Kevin Prendergast believes that Moiqen can end the domination of Aidan O’Brien in Sunday’s Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial.

The master of Ballydoyle has won the race six times in the last 10 years with horses of the calibre of Dylan Thomas, Yeats, High Chaparral and Galileo.

But in the shape of Moiqen, winner of the Ballysax Stakes last time, Prendergast believes he has a colt of the highest order.

“He’ll run on Sunday,” said Prendergast.

“He improved for the step up to 10 furlongs last time but his pedigree suggested that he would do anyway, he’s out of a staying family on his dam’s side.

“The ground drying up will help him a lot.

“The horse that was second in the Ballysax (O’Brien’s Hebridean) won by three and a half lengths next time so he can’t do anymore than that.

“He’s a May foal, I think he only just turned three the other day so all he can do is improve.

“I’d say he’d be far shorter (in the betting for the Derby) after Sunday anyway.”

Moiqen is currently around the 40-1 mark for the Derby at Epsom on June 7.
