Irish target for Name

Famous Name is likely to sidestep the French 2000 Guineas at the weekend and head instead for the Boylesports-sponsored Irish version at the Curragh.

The Dermot Weld-trained colt made a pleasing reappearance with a four-length victory in the Group Three Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial a month ago.

And while Longchamp on Sunday has not been completely ruled out, a trip to the Curragh on May 24 appears the preferred option.

“He’s more likely to go straight for the Irish Guineas. No decision has been taken, but he’s more likely to go for the Irish 2000 than go to France,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah.

“He’s done well and we hope he can carry on.”
