More success for Moore at Lingfield

Nawamees continued his remarkable run at the lowest grade by landing the Celebrate Your Birthday at Lingfield Park Claiming Stakes.

As the 6-4 favourite, Ryan Moore had things all his own way out in front, taking them along at a sedate pace before kicking on in the last couple of furlongs.

The length and a half victory was his fifth success in all-weather claimers from his last six starts.

Moore's father Gary, the trainer, said of the versatile 10-year-old: "That's his grade. He's better with a lead, but there was no point waiting around.

"He still jumps and he might go for a race at Aintree next month."

Moore was an eyecatching booking for the William Haggas-trained Maghya, who took the Conferences At Lingfield Park Median Auction Maiden Stakes with a little panache.

The former champion had about five lengths to find on the runaway Reine de Violette but under only hands and heels the 5-6 favourite got past inside the final furlong to get home by a neck.

Dark Camellia had first run on the leader but did not quite have the impetus and settled for second.

Haggas' wife Maureen said: "She's a nice horse to have about and it's great she's won now. We'll see how she gets handicapped and take it from there."

Dandy Nicholls has his string a little more forward than usual for the time of year and his form even rubbed off on Shot To Fame.

The last time the veteran entered the winner's enclosure was four years ago in a Group Three at Ascot, so the Perfect Wedding Venue At Lingfield Park Selling Stakes was rather lower-key.

The market spoke for him as the 100-30 favourite and Adrian Nicholls pulled Shot To Fame into space with plenty of time to win by a length from Moore and Apache Dawn.

He attracted no bid at the auction.
