Cecil mulls Lockinge bid

Phoenix Tower could head for the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury following his Newmarket success last week.

The four-year-old is unbeaten in four starts after making a triumphant return to action in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes following a lengthy lay-off.

Trainer Henry Cecil is now mulling a tilt at the May 17 Group One for Phoenix Tower while stablemate Multidimensional, who finished fourth in the Sefton, could turn out at Chester on May 8.

“Phoenix Tower did well to win after a long lay-off and he may go next for the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 17,” said Cecil.

“Multidimensional could go for the Group Three four-year-olds and upwards race over a mile and two furlongs (the Huxley Stakes) at Chester.”

Unnefer won a competitive conditions race at Newbury last week and Cecil could send him to the Cheshire venue along with John Porter Stakes third Tempelstern.

“Unnefer may go for the Vase or Dee Stakes at the same course,” he told www.henrycecil.com.

“Tempelstern, who got a little tired after running a great race in the John Porter, may contest the Ormonde Stakes at Chester too.”
