Cumani on call for Nottingham

Luca Cumani takes the wraps off leading Vodafone Derby fancy Curtain Call at Nottingham tomorrow.

The Sadler’s Wells colt is a best-priced 10-1 for the Epsom Classic before he makes his seasonal debut in the intercasino.co.uk Conditions Stakes.

Curtain Call faces just three rivals as he has his first run for the Newmarket-based trainer having been trained as a two-year-old by Jessica Harrington in Ireland.

“He came to us in December and he’s done very well over the winter,” said Cumani.

“He’s a very good looking horse and so far we’ve been pleased with his work. We will have to see what happens tomorrow.

“Given his breeding you’d have to say he’d like soft ground.”

Curtain Call had smart form as a juvenile, running New Approach to three lengths at the Curragh in August before winning the Group Two Beresford Stakes there a month later for his sole success.

He did, though, disappoint on his final start when only fifth to Ibn Khaldun in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October.

“I wasn’t training him at the time so it’s difficult for me to say, but I was told that there was every chance he was over the top by then,” Cumani told At The Races.
