Ammakin ready to make Ditton debut
Amaakin makes his eagerly-awaited racecourse bow in the first division of the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Wood Ditton Stakes at Newmarket tomorrow.
Owned by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar of Authorized fame, the Gone West colt is in training with Peter Chapple-Hyam.
Amaakin was something of a talking horse last year and was as low as 16-1 for the 2000 Guineas but never actually made it to the track.
“There was a lot of talk about him last year but all will be revealed tomorrow!” said Tony Nerses, the owners’ racing manager.
“We are quite hopeful and we believe he will run a big race but with it being his first start, we will just have to wait and see.
“He didn’t run last year because he just kept on growing so Peter was very patient with him.
“This is the ideal starting point, a race for three-year-olds who have never run before and we will know an awful lot more tomorrow.
“We will see how right Peter was about him and we will know by 1.45pm tomorrow!”
