James Fanshawe took his two Guineas contenders for a workout on Newmarket’s Waterhall gallop on Saturday.

Both Gimcrack winner Sir Gerry and May Hill winner Spacious worked seven and a half furlongs as the trainer elected to give the busy Racecourse Side gallop a miss.

Sir Gerry, partnered by Jamie Spencer, put himself spot on for a crack at Saturday’s Greenham Stakes at Newbury in work with useful sprinter Zidane while Spacious will head straight to Newmarket for the 1000 Guineas.

“Sir Gerry and Zidane worked together and both pleased me,” said Fanshawe.

“Sir Gerry goes for the Greenham next Saturday and Zidane will either go for The Abernant or a Conditions race at Thirsk next week.

“They worked over seven and a half furlongs quickening up from the six and half.

“Jamie was delighted with the way Sir Gerry relaxed.

“Spacious (under Oscar Urbina) went nicely with Athenian Way and she will go straight to The 1000 Guineas.”

Sir Gerry is a 25-1 shot for Classic glory with Sky Bet while Spacious is 5-1 joint-favourite with Muthabara for the 1000 Guineas with Victor Chandler.
