Watamu chasing Kempton spoils
Watamu, a late withdrawal from the Lincoln because of soft ground, tries again at Kempton tomorrow.
The lightly-raced seven-year-old is set to return after over a year’s absence in the intercasino.co.uk Rosebery Stakes.
“We were going to run him in the Lincoln. He’s a hard horse to train and he went wrong last year,” said trainer Peter Makin.
“We were going to get him ready for Doncaster, but we took him out as the ground had come too soft last Saturday.
“He’s in good order, he goes on the all-weather and we are hoping for a big run. It’s a nice draw (15) as long as he doesn’t get shut in.
“Seb (Sanders) has won on him before. He knows the horse and it’s fingers crossed tomorrow.”
On his last start at Lingfield in March 2007, Watamu defeated Very Wise who went on to the Lincoln run at Newcastle two weeks later.
