Worcester card switched to Southwell

Worcester’s National Hunt fixture on Sunday, April 6, has been transferred to Southwell.

Following an inspection of the track by a course inspector of the British Horseracing Authority, it was agreed that parts of the surface were unlikely to be fit for racing.

It is anticipated the switch will only involve minor alterations to race distances.

Worcester clerk of the course, Fergus Cameron, said: “A lot of work has gone into the preparation of the racing surface since last summer and it is disappointing not to be able to hold the first fixture of the season.

“Huge efforts have been made to get the course ready, but last week’s flooding and the cold spell have delayed the grass growth on parts of the course.

“The current forecast is for warmer conditions to set in later this week.

“A further review in respect of the fixture scheduled for April 23 will be taken on April 11.”
