Malcolm Jefferson plans to send a small but select team to Aintree’s three-day Grand National meeting next week.

Calatagan and According To Pete, who did the North Yorkshire trainer proud when placed at the Cheltenham Festival, are on target for Liverpool as are seasoned campaigner Roman Ark and Cape Tribulation, who is unbeaten in two bumpers.

The Red Rum Handicap Chase over two miles is the objective for Calatagan after he finished third in the Grand Annual Chase at the Festival.

According To Pete, third in the Pertemps Final, goes for the John Smith’s Extra Cold Handicap Hurdle over three miles.

“They are both grand and will both go to Liverpool,” said Jefferson.

“Roman Ark runs in the Topham and Cape Tribulation, all being well, goes for the Bumper. He’s quite a nice horse.”
