Pipe in no rush with Osana

David Pipe will bide his time before deciding which path Champion Hurdle runner-up Osana will go down next season.

The youngster finished a one-length second to Katchit in Cheltenham’s two-mile feature last week, but is expected to make a grand chaser when the decision is made to tackle the bigger obstacles.

“He’ll have a nice summer holiday and then we’ll decide after that,” said Pipe.

“He’ll be a lovely chaser when he does go chasing, but when that time will be I don’t know at the moment.”

Pipe is thrilled with Osana’s condition after a gruelling Champion Hurdle but is yet to decide whether he will be seen in action again this season.

“He seems to have come out of the race well and he’s been for a canter and looks in good form,” he told At The Races.

“He ran his heart out, as did Katchit, but I haven’t spoken to the owners yet. I suppose the only options left are Aintree or Ayr.

“We’ll sit down and have a chat but he’ll either have the one more run or that’ll be it for the year.”
