Sedgefield inspection due

Sedgefield’s fixture on Tuesday is subject to the course passing an 11am inspection ahead of racing.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore had been scheduled to hold an official check at 3pm on Monday, but had to delay making an early decision.

He has been left with no option but to leave it late, with groundstaff at the track laying frost covers as they make every attempt to get the meeting on.

Moore said: “You couldn’t abandon racing today and the chairman of the stewards is absolutely adamant about that, so we’re going to roll forward to the morning.

“Our view was that at 2.30pm today, the time of our first race tomorrow, if all of the covers had been off we would probably have raced.

“We just have to wait and see what the weather brings overnight and there wouldn’t be any point looking early as we’ve been frozen until 10am every morning.

“It may well roll on, and we just hope people get behind us. We are trying to race, and by the time the temperature drops tonight, the whole course will be under cover.”
