Murphy considers King options

Ferdy Murphy is keen to get Kalahari King back in action as the youngster continues to please at home.

Despite finishing only fourth when sent off favourite in a race won by Rippling Ring at the start of the month, Murphy is pleased with the seven-year-old, who could head to Sandown on Friday.

“He’ll be in at a few places and we’re just looking for some good ground for him,” said the trainer.

“He was in tomorrow at Kelso but it would have been a bit too gluey there for him and I don’t want to pull him about on that. He could go to Sandown if it dries out, or to Sedgefield next week.

“He seems really well at the moment and worked very well on Tuesday morning, so we’re very happy with him at the moment.

“It looked a good novice race last time and he was a little sore afterwards but we have a spa at home and he’s been in that which has helped him. It’s just a matter of finding him some good ground and with the way the weather is at the moment we should have plenty of options.”

Kalahari King holds an entry in the Anglo Irish Bank Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, for which he can be backed at 25-1 with a host of firms.
