Fairyhouse still too wet

Wednesday’s re-scheduled meeting at Fairyhouse has been abandoned as the course is still waterlogged.

The fixture, which was switched from Sunday, was set to feature the return of Kicking King.

The 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner had been pencilled in for the Normans Grove Chase. He is likely to return in the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown on February 3 now.

“They’ve inspected the track this morning and fund it to be waterlogged,” said the Irish Turf Club’s Cliff Noone.

“They’ve had 25 millimetres of rain over the weekend, so it’s actually deteriorated rather than got better.

“There’s a bad weather forecast and it would take a good dry week for it to clear up.”
