Webber wary of Souffleur challenge

Paul Webber admits One Gulp and Edgbriar face an uphill task if they line up in Saturday’s Ballymore Properties Leamington Novices’ Hurdle.

The Warwick contest has attracted Peter Bowen’s Challow Hurdle winner Souffleur among 14 entries and Webber admits his plans are likely to be determined by that rival.

“A lot will depend on what Mr Bowen does. We don’t really want to take him on so we will wait and see,” he said.

Souffleur is rated 150 while One Gulp, winner of both her starts over hurdles, is on a mark of 120.

Webber explained: “It might be an opportunity for One Gulp to get some black type as the ground would suit her but she would be 30lb wrong at the weights.”

Edgbriar has been off the track since finishing second on his only start over obstacles last March and has options in two other novice events at the weekend.

“Edgbriar also likes the soft ground and he is entered at Kempton and Wetherby as well as Warwick, so we will make a decision on him later in the week,” Webber added.
