Kicking King is still poised to return to the track this month – but not at Thurles.

Tom Taaffe’s 2005 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner was originally pencilled in for a January 17 comeback in the Kinloch Brae Chase at the Tipperary venue.

Taaffe has had a change of heart, however, with Kicking King now set to go to Fairyhouse three days later.

“Everything has gone to plan and if it continues to do so he will run in the Normans Grove,” the County Kildare handler told the Racing Post.

“Fairyhouse is a bigger, more galloping track than Thurles and should suit him better.”
