Nicanor ruled out

Nicanor will miss his intended run at Leopardstown this afternoon after suffering a setback.

The six-year-old was due to make his long-awaited reappearance in the Bewleys Hotel Manchester Beginners Chase but trainer Noel Meade has been forced to pull him out.

“I got a phone call from the yard to say his shins were very sore so he was put in the spa but he’s still sore this morning,” Meade told At The Races.

“It’s most unusual for a horse of his age to be sore in the shin but he is and can’t run.”

Nicanor has been off the track since winning a Punchestown Grade One in 2006 and remains the only horse to have beaten Denman in the Royal & SunAlliance Novices’ Hurdle of that year.
