Sheriff lays down the law
Sheriff Roscoe showed the benefit of a recent outing to take the opening 3m Health Care Beginners’ Chase at Leicester.
Trained by Peter Winkworth and ridden by Dominic Elsworth, the 9-2 chance was always prominent and showed a good attitude to fend off even-money favourite Down’s Folly by five lengths.
The runner-up gained the upper-hand with a bold leap at the penultimate obstacle but Elsworth kept his cool aboard the winner, who stuck on well to score with a little in hand.
