Kauto Star among winners at awards ceremony
The team behind Betfair Million winner Kauto Star were all winners at the Horserace Writers & Photographers Association annual awards in London today.
Paul Nicholls was named National Hunt Trainer of the Year, Ruby Walsh landed the jump jockeys’ prize, while Clive Smith collected the owners’ accolade.
Aidan O’Brien was named the top international trainer, with Peter Chapple-Hyam on hand to accept his Flat Trainer of the Year award thanks to his exploits with Authorized, winner of the Vodafone Derby and Juddmonte International.
Seb Sanders, who tied with Jamie Spencer for the riders’ championship after an enthralling end to the Flat season, beat off his rival to take the Flat jockey award.
Racing UK presenter Nick Luck picked up the broadcasters’ award, while Chris McGrath of The Independent was crowned Journalist of the Year.
The Racing Post’s David Dew was named Photographer of the Year.
Nigel Payne landed the George Ennor award, JP McNamara the President’s award and the Stable Staff award went to Derek Wilmott and Graham Gray.
