Moss claims Clonmel honours
Mossbank put up an impressive performance to give trainer Michael Hourigan his sixth victory in the Clonmel Oil Chase.
Hourigan was successful four times with Dorans Pride and once with Beef Or Salmon and Mossbank joined the roll of honour with a tremendous display.
The drop in trip provided no barrier following his win over three miles at Limerick last month.
Making smooth progress, the 7-2 shot led two out and stormed eight lengths clear of Knight Legend. Light On The Broom was third while the favourite Justified dropped back tamely after being prominent early on.
“We got a virus in the stable last year, this horse got it so last season was a bit of a write off,” said Hourigan.
“It’s great to see him win a race that Dorans Pride won four times and Beef or Salmon won once
“I’ve probably found out how to train him now, so I keep him fresh. I’ve no plans for him yet but I’ll have a talk with owner Michael O’Leary.
Mossbank is, however, in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury on December 1 and was cut to 10-1 from 14-1 with VC Bet.
A 6lb penalty for this victory takes his weight up to 9st 8lb.
