Spencer wins in Doncaster
Jamie Spencer reduced his deficit in the jockeys' championship to one winner after booting home Generous Thought in the Bet In-Play At totesport.com Nursery at Doncaster.
Earlier, Seb Sanders pulled two clear of Spencer in the battle for the jockeys’ title when claiming a dramatic first division of the First Transforming Travel In Doncaster EBF Maiden Stakes aboard Incomparable.
Sanders looked booked for second when Godolphin’s Omnicat hit the front a furlong out, despite drifting markedly to his left.
However, the newcomer then jinked right, unshipping jockey Eddie Ahern before interfering with Incomparable (11-4), stopping him to nearly a walk.
He managed to hold on by a length from Orange Pip in second and Climaxtackledotcom third.
Spencer kept his hopes alive with his decisive victory on Generous Thought to narrow the gap to one winner.
Sent off the 4-1 favourite, Spencer dropped his mount out in the rear in trademark style.
Spencer, now a 100-30 chance with VC Bet to win the jockeys' title, said: "You never give up. I’ve had a lot of luck and Seb was due a bit. Hand on heart, if he wins I couldn’t complain. He deserves it more than any other jockey because he has tried harder.
“There hasn’t been a title race like this for 20 years and if I’m on the wrong end of it I couldn’t complain.”
Paul Howling’s charge made eyecatching headway and tracked Sanders on Mudhish before unleashing his mount a furlong out.
Generous Thought pulled away for a one-and-a-quarter-length success, with Rash Judgement second.
Sanders had to settle for third aboard Mudhish.
