Segundo wins Cox Plate in Australia
El Segundo went one place better than last year by winning the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Australia.
The Colin Little-trained gelding finished second to Fields Of Omagh 12 months ago but made no mistake this time in the hands of Luke Nolen.
El Segundo comfortably defeated the Bart Cummings-trained Wonderful World, with long-time leader Haradasun holding on for third.
Miss Finland, the well-supported favourite and Melbourne Cup fancy, failed to land a blow and came home fourth in Australasia’s valuable weight-for-age championship.
