Spencer victories puts jockey in contention for title
Jamie Spencer cut Seb Sanders' lead in the race for the jockeys' title to just two with a superb four-timer - all with favourites - at Wolverhampton.
Spencer, the title holder two years ago, is now on the 166 mark thanks to his quartet of successful market leaders at the all-weather circuit.
He began the day six down (168-162), but had by far the better of the argument with Sanders, who drew a blank at Pontefract.
Spencer got a flyer by taking the first two races on Councellor (13-8) for Stef Liddiard and the Kevin Ryan-trained Peter's Storm (2-1).
He then brought up the treble on High Standing (4-6) for Neville Callaghan and rounded off a successful day on Luca Cumani's Furmigadelagiusta (3-1).
The two protagonists are again in action at different tracks tomorrow as the championship challenge moves on.
Spencer has seven rides booked at Yarmouth, while Sanders is down for six mounts at Lingfield.
