Godolphin shine at York

Godolphin may not have had a representative to match Rio De La Plata or Ramonti at York, but there was no stopping the boys in blue as they enjoyed a fantastic 301/2-1 treble.

Sent off the even-money favourite on his debut, the son of King’s Best, who won the 2000 Guineas seven years ago, received a quote of 33-1 from VC Bet for that Newmarket Classic and the Derby after putting his rivals to the sword by five lengths.

Bin Suroor smiled: “This is a nice day for us – if we could do this every day, we would be very happy.

“I like him and he had been working well at home, but better ground might suit him even better.

“He relaxed very well, was professional and finished his race very well.

“He might have one more run now but we might also take him back to Dubai after that.

“He’s a horse to look forward to next season.”

Dettori, who was notching a double on Calming Influence, added: “He had his race won between the three-furlong pole and the one-pole.

“He’s a nice colt and gave me a good feel. He would have given me an even better feel on better ground but he couldn’t have won a lot easier.”

Godolphin’s second, and Dettori’s first success arrived when Amarna showed a willing attitude to fight off a host of challengers in the £18,000 TSG Stakes.

Sent off the 5-2 favourite, the upwardly-mobile Danzig colt passed the post with half a length in hand of 33-1 chance Prince Of Thebes, with Zaahid just a neck away in third.

Bin Suroor said: “He’s a very tough horse. He has now won four of his six races and I think he was a little bit unlucky (when second) last time.

“There is no real plan for him but we’ll probably find another race before the end of the season as he is so tough and he takes his races so well.

“He might be able to get a mile and a quarter, but I think a mile is just right for him now.”

Dettori missed out on a treble when partnering Godolphin’s supposed first string, Best Alibi, in the opening Garbutt & Elliott Stakes.

While he stuck to his guns to claim third, stablemate Fairmile (7-2) was always going best for Ted Durcan and eased to a three-length verdict over Sunshine Kid.

Bin Suroor said: “He’s improved from last time and he was nice and relaxed before the race.

“Ted said he is a sweet horse and switched off well in the race.

“We’ll try to find a better one for him now.”

Esthlos (6-1) also switched off before finding a rare turn of foot to win the Betfair Apprentice Training Series Finale Stakes, in which the burgeoning talents of his partner Luke Morris were well advertised.

Despite finishing down the field on Moonwalking, Kirsty Milczarek still won the Betfair Apprentice Training Series.

Her prize is an all-expenses-paid working holiday from Betfair with a leading trainer from around the globe.

Princess Ellis (5-1 favourite) was forced to shoulder a hefty penalty in the Persimmon Homes Stakes after rattling up a quick double.

But Eric Alston’s three-year-old is evidently teak-tough and was always prominent under Kevin Darley to hold off Valley Of The Moon by a short head.

Alston’s wife, Sue, said: “When I saw the others taking her on I was worried but she has battled back.”

However, Darley was handed a two-day ban by the stewards for careless riding and will be sidelined on October 23-24.

Another to show a willing attitude was Floristry, who dug deep to see off 4-1 favourite Striking Spirit in the Acom Web Offset Stakes.

After landing odds of 8-1 by a neck, winning rider Ryan Moore said: “That was tough and she’s a nice filly.”
